I went to the Renaissance faire dressed as a warrior.  I had a real sword with me, too.  I was standing (in character) next to a sword-fighting ring, where kids of all ages got the chance to pick up a sword and challenge the champion.  Some woman walks by, with her little girl.  The girl starts walking towards the ring, saying she wants to fight.  But the mom pulled her away hella sharply, and was like, “That’s for boys.”  You don’t want to be a BOY, do you?”    And the girl looked around and saw me.  I think she thought I was a boy; I had my hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a hood.  So she comes up to me and asks me, “Do you think girls can be fighters, too?”  And her mom looks like she’s silently gloating.  Like she thinks I’m going to say no.  So I take off my hood, untie my hair so that it flows freely, and kneel before her.  And I’m like, “Milady, anyone can be a fighter.”  I swear, the look on that mother’s face made my day.

ALRIGHT LISTEN UP IMMA TELL YOU SOME SERIOUS GENDER MARKETING BULLSHIT THAT WENT DOWN TODAY
Today a woman came in to get her 13 year old son’s black iPhone fixed. This thing was totally fucking busted. She was already kind of being bitchy so I’m just trying to reassure her that everything will be fine and shuffle through the paper work so shes on her way. She leaves, I put her phone away till I have time to fix it.
Well come to find out that we were completely out of black screens until next week’s shipment. So I put on a white screen for now and reassure her that when we do get black screens in that I will call her and we’ll put the new screen on for free. Better to have a temporary mixed match phone then a broken one right?
This woman proceeds to flip her shit. “WE CAME HERE TO GET WHAT WE HAD FIXED!” I calmly explain to her that there is nothing I can do about the color for the time being. The son is totally fine with this and obviously embarrassed by his mother’s outburst. The woman snatches the phone, sneers at it, and then shoves it back into my hands and says “NOW IT LOOKS LIKE A GIRL’S PHONE! I AM NOT GIVING THIS TO MY SON!”
At this moment I turn to her and say. “I don’t undersand? How is it a girl’s phone now?”
"Well it was BLACK and now its WHITE!!" She gestured dramatically at the screen like I couldn’t fucking see it.
"How is white a feminine color?"
She huffs and explains that she refuses to take the phone until the color is changed. The 13 is now rapid fire “its fine its fine” cause he just wants his phone back. But she keeps refusing but I finally tell her again that we will change the phone for free when we get black screens and that shes not allowed to keep it here. The point of the matter is that this woman almost refused to even take back the phone BECAUSE OF ITS COLOR. Mind you its not even anything like pink or purple. ITS. WHITE.
A SUBURBAN WHITE WOMAN TURNED RED IN THE FACE WITH ANGER BEAUSE SHE THOUGHT WHITE WAS TOO GIRLY FOR HER SON.

And the son is more mature than her.

The Kickstarter Needs You

Sorry to reblog from the source, but I thought the chain of comments was rather unnecessary. All that needs to be said is that this documentary examines gender inequality and how patriarchy contributes negatively to our society.

This is a feminist issue.

And anyone on Tumblr who’s too close-minded to recognize it as such due to a nonsensical blanketed hatred of men’s issues need to re-evaluate their motives.

image

THESE ARE REAL AND HORRIBLE MALE ISSUES CAUSED BY THE PATRIARCHY. IF YOURE FEMINIST, THESE SHOULD ANGER YOU. IF YOU’RE NOT, HERES ANOTHER REASON TO SUPPORT THE MOVEMENT.

have I already reblogged this? don’t give a fuck.

The patriarchy hurts everyone.

I WANNA MENTION THIS BECAUSE EVERY TIME SOMEONE MENTIONS THIS THING ABOUT SUICIDE I FEEL I SHOULD BUT IN

MORE WOMEN ATTEMPT SUICIDE

MORE MEN SUCCEED

Women are more likely to use non-lethal methods such as pills while men tend to use firearms.

Something to keep in mind.

I need feminism because the father of my children thinks his depression is invalid because he is male.

Brother Bear Appreciation Week

Day 3: Favourite Quotes

LET ME TELL YOU WHY THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT, UNDERRATED DISNEY FILMS OF ALL TIME OKAY:

1. It teaches kids that we should never judge others by their appearance or what we’ve seen on the surface.

2. It teaches kids that despite if we’ve been taught to be afraid of or hate something or someone that looks/acts differently than us, we should learn and try to understand them before we judge them.

3. It teaches that two sides that may hate each other don’t always have to stay that way - they can learn and grown from each other’s mistakes.

4. It teaches that hatred is not always the answer; to listen, to step back, and see through someone else’s eyes. It teaches patience, understanding, and wisdom.

5. IT TEACHES CHILDREN THAT PEOPLE CAN BE FORGIVEN AND DO BETTER.

6. It teaches children that even if you make a mistake, you can learn and grow from it like Kenai.

Seriously I just love this movie to pieces it is so important to me and I wish more people knew/watched it because wtf it’s AMAZING.

NOT TO MENTION THE ENTIRE CAST IS POC AND CULTURE WISE IT IS RESPECTFUL AND IT IS JUST A GREAT MOVIE OKAY

And despite one of the movie’s themes about “love”, which most everyone is conditioned to tune towards the romantic kind, romance isn’t really mentioned here. Instead it focuses on love of yourself and other people, and learning to love other people despite being taught certain prejudices. I feel like this movie didn’t do so well b/c there were no love interests????? But like sometimes romance subplots are just kinda……unneeded and this movie didn’t need a thing like that. He didn’t meet a GIRL who taught him all these lessons, he met a little boy who became his brother.

It also teaches that Family is not just blood. Family bonds are not just something you’re born into, they’re something you can grow into. And thats an important lesson, especially where the phrase “blood is thicker than water” is tossed around carelessly. The family -you create- through strong bonds of friendship and brotherhood can be just as important as blood.

Another theme is perspective. It’s easy to forget that other people are living breathing individuals like yourself, and there are several instances where the main character’s perspective is shown to be self-serving. He learns that not only were his prejudices wrong, but they were unfair. He wasn’t aware that other people struggle just like him, or that other people have problems.

This movie has more than one theme in it, and a lot of them aren’t really touched on that much anymore and it is literally so important I can’t even stress.

Like all living things, humans are bioluminescent (meaning we glow) – We glow brightest during the afternoon. - weird, interesting & funny facts

what

i’ve been staring at this for like 5 minutes. so.. what. i don’t think people glow. but this is telling me that we actually emit visible light.. especially in the afternoon?? am i reading this right or what

"all living things" plants. when do the plants glow

science side of tumblr pls

I’m not from the science side of tumblr, but here’s the answer anyways:
Basically, all living things are bioluminescent because every living thing has chemical reactions occurring in their cells. The energy created from these chemical reactions physically manifests as light, thus… all living things naturally glow.
However, this glow cannot be seen by the human eye. In fact, the only way they’ve ever captured this light is through special cameras. Using these ultra special cameras, they’ve imaged subjects’ bodies over 24 hour periods. It has been found out that humans emit the most of this glow during the afternoon (about 4 PM), it is the weakest in the morning (about 10 AM), and the brightest light is emitted from the cheeks, neck, and forehead.
The light is about a thousand times weaker than what humans can perceive.
Basically, it’s a side effect of metabolic reactions. It’s been suspected that humans are bioluminescent for years, but they weren’t able to confirm it until recently thanks to technology and a man named Masaki Kobayashi from the Tohoku Institute of Technology.
